False threat prompts lockdown at Moberly schools, district says

Moberly schools entered lockdown Thursday afternoon after the Moberly Police Department received a reported threat, according to a social media post from the Moberly School District.

Law enforcement later determined the threat was a swatting call, a false report made to emergency services to draw a large number of armed officers to a specific location.

Officials checked and cleared all buildings, and all students and staff stayed safe during the incident, the post said.

Moberly School District Superintendent Cristina Wright told KOMU 8 News that the swatting call was made directly to law enforcement, not to any school district personnel. She added that all eight school sites were placed on lockdown.
