Rapper Mystikal pleads guilty to third-degree rape, faces up to 20 years in prison

Rapper Mystikal, whose name is Michael Lawrence Tyler, has pleaded guilty to third-degree rape in connection with a 2022 arrest.

According to multiple Baton Rouge media outlets, 55-year-old Tyler now faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison after entering his plea in an Ascension Parish courtroom on March 17.

Online records from the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office show that authorities arrested Tyler on July 31, 2022, and booked him on several charges, including first-degree rape, simple robbery, and domestic abuse battery by strangulation.

Reports at the time indicated that the New Orleans-based rapper had been living in the Prairieville area within the parish.

Deputies responded to a hospital following a report of a sexual assault, according to an APSO news release issued at the time.

A judge initially denied bail, and Tyler has remained in custody at the parish jail since his arrest.

Tyler is reportedly scheduled to be sentenced on June 6.
